Engagement and Happiness

You may think the meaning of happiness is obvious.  I thought so myself until I took The Fundamentals of Positive Psychology course at the University of Pennsylvania.  Here’s what I learned: There are three levels of happiness; 1) hedonic – the temporary bump in happiness that happens when you get something new – say a new car, or a new sweetie, 2) engagement – when time goes by quickly because you are doing something you are both good at and that you like doing, and 3) meaning – being in service of something higher than yourself.

What do you do that creates a state of engagement (called flow by psychologists), and how can you create more of it?
